Most actors who play comedic dunces tend to go full-idiot. Like Will Ferrell, a man whose acting quiver consists primarily of falling down or taking off his shirt, hoping excess flesh and body hair stand in for effort. They’re unbelievable: one-dimensional fools who can be explained only through mental disability. But Chris Pratt never stoops to that. He hovers just above it — more clown than idiot, with a redeeming self-awareness that makes him part of the joke instead of the joke itself.
