When I was in second grade, my teacher did this exercise on writing instructions in which everyone in the class had to write a step-by-step guide to making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She particularly praised one kid who, in his directions, wrote that the sandwich maker should take out two knives: one for the peanut butter and one for the jelly. That way, no peanut butter gets in the jelly or vice versa. And at the time, my reaction was essentially WHAT THE FUCK WHO THE FUCK USES TWO KNIVES FOR ONE SANDWICH YOU HAVE TO CLEAN TWO KNIVES IF YOU DO THAT.

Two decades and change later I still can’t make a pb&j without thinking WHO THE FUCK USES TWO KNIVES FOR ONE SANDWICH JESUS CHRIST.

Pretty sure that’s not what I was supposed to take away from that lesson.
